If you’re not sure who you’re state senator is, look it up here:

The California Values Act (SB 54), is an urgent bill that would stop state resources from being used to aid Trump’s anti-immigrant agenda.  SB 54 ensures that no state or local resources are diverted to fuel any attempt by the federal government to carry out mass deportations and that our schools, our hospitals, and our courthouses are safe spaces for everyone in our community. SB 54 will ban state and local law enforcement officials from performing the functions of a federal immigration officer.

The California Values Act will also create “safe zones” throughout the state by prohibiting immigration enforcement on public school, hospital, and courthouse premises. To ensure eligible immigrants are not deterred from seeking services and engaging with state agencies, the bill also requires state agencies to review and update confidentiality policies.

SB 54 does not prevent state and local departments or agencies from complying with a judicial warrant to transfer violent offenders into federal custody for immigration enforcement purposes. The right to due process is the bedrock of the U.S. criminal justice system. Public safety suffers when local police enforce immigration laws. When victims of crime don’t come forward for fear of immigration consequences, the impact on public safety reaches far beyond immigrant communities.

This bill is facing stiff opposition in the state legislature from the California State Sheriffs’ Association, and it may not pass unless our state senators hear from their constituents before a make-or-break committee vote on March 27.

Give your State Senator a quick call to support their YES vote.

Please pass SB 54, the California Values Act

“Hello, my name is___________ and I would like to ask ___Senator <last name>___to support the California Values Act, SB 54. The bill will ensure that most state and local resources are not used to further mass deportations. Honest, hardworking families are living in fear. The California Values Act will uphold our core principles of equal treatment, community, and compassion. Thank you.”
